Prevention
There is no cure for traumatic brain injury and its consequences can be devastating. It is therefore essential that the focus is on prevention, which often requires no more than a little thought.
Preventative measures:
Always wear a seat belt
Never drink or take drugs and drive
Always remain within the speed limit
Always use the appropriate child seat for children and babies
Always wear a helmet on a motorbike or scooter
Always wear a helmet when cycling and make sure you are visible to drivers
Always wear a helmet when horse riding, climbing, skiing, snow boarding or participating in any contact sport
Have railings on stairs and in the shower, especially for elderly people
Use gates to stop small children from falling down the stairs
Ensure windows can not be opened too far or have bars across them to prevent children falling out
Keep objects that are easy to trip over off the floor or out of the way
